“Evolving the Torchlight universe into a shared world has always been a goal for the franchise, and I’m excited that we’re finally able to make it a reality,” said Max Schaefer, CEO of Echtra Games.
Echtra is headed by Max Schaefer, former Blizzard North and Runic Games co-founder. The game is being developed by Echtra Games, the new studio born from the ashes of Torchlight developers Runic Games. Players will join forces to hack and slash their way through hordes of enemies. The shared world part points to an online only game with persistent servers and procedurally generated worlds.
Torchlight Frontiers is described as a “shared world action-RPG.” Judging from the trailer it uses the similar colorful art style as the original games.
